I wonder how magnificent your life could be if you were to become all you could be. What if you were to tap into your full potential for success and happiness? Here are seven principles to help you do just that.
Principle 1: Accept Responsibility for Where You Are
Where you are today is the result of the choices you have made to this point in time. This includes the particular actions you have chosen to take and the particular actions you have chosen not to take. You are totally responsible for where you are and who you are.
The first step to building a better life is to accept that you are responsible for your current life. If you choose to blame your circumstances, your family, your spouse, the government, or any one or any thing else, for your present life then you will never have what it takes to change your life for the better.
Principle 2: Learn what you need to know
It always amazes me that almost everyone realizes that you need to study for years to get a good professional career yet most people never realize that they need to study to get a good life.
Being happy and successful in any aspect of your life is a skill that needs to be learned. You can choose to learn it from trial and error, which may take longer than you live, or you can choose to study the knowledge that has been handed down and refined over the centuries.
Principle 3: Have a Game Plan
The average person spends more time planning the one day of their wedding, or a week’s vacation, than they spend planning their life.
If you want to get the most out of life then you need to write a game plan for what you want and how you are going to get it.
Principle 4: Take Charge of Your Life
Who’s in charge of your life now? Is it your parents, or your children, or your boss, or your friends, or your religion, or is it you?
If you don’t take charge of your life then someone else probably will. Who knows where they will steer you.
Principle 5: Become an Action Taker
Most people don’t take the action to IMPROVE their life because they are too busy taking the actions to MAINTAIN their life. They are fully occupied with such important tasks as watching television, talking about nothing with their friends (who are also going nowhere), keeping up to date with the statistics of their football team, and other activities of equally earth moving importance.
Make taking life improving action a priority each and every day and your life will improve. It’s as simple as that.
Principle 6: Build Relationships
Everybody builds relationships with somebody. Some people specialize in building good relationships and some specialize in building bad relationships.
What type of relationships are you building and who are you building them with?
Are they relationships that are improving your life, maintaining your status quo, or taking you backwards?
Who you build relationships with and what type of relationships you build are your choices.
Principle 7: Stay Focused
Day to day life can be such a distraction that you never get around to doing the six steps outlined above. Or maybe you start doing them for a while but then slip out of the habit.
Get focused on growing and moving forward and stay focused on growing and moving forward. Remember that if you’re not growing you’re dying.
Make a decision today to become all that you can be and put the seven steps into practice. You may just amaze yourself with the magnificent life that unfolds before you.
